4. Pending sales were up for the third consecutive month
Pending home sales rose for the third consecutive month in October, increasing by 2% compared to September, according to the National Association of Realtors (NAR).
"Home-buying momentum is building after nearly two years of suppressed home sales. Even with mortgage rates modestly rising despite the Federal Reserve's decision to cut the short-term interbank lending rate in September, continuous job additions and more housing inventory are bringing more consumers to the market"
Pending home sales reflect transactions where the contract has been signed for the sale of an existing home, but the sale has not yet closed. Economists view the figure as an indicator of the direction of existing home sales in subsequent months.
5. Texas broker latest to file suit over NAR’s divisive 3-way agreement
Luz De Amor Eytalis, a Texas broker, filed a complaint on Nov. 25 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas, alleging violations of federal civil rights and antitrust laws.
In her filing, Eytalis claims that the National Association of Realtors (NAR), the Texas Association of Realtors, the Wichita Falls Association of Realtors, and Paragon MLS Connect engaged in monopolistic and discriminatory practices. She alleges these practices unlawfully restrict competition in the real estate market by requiring brokers to join multiple associations as a precondition for MLS services.
Eytalis is requesting policy changes and compensatory damages of no less than $5.8 million.
