👷 Good morning! We hope you had a fantastic Labor Day and enjoyed some well-deserved relaxation. Welcome back!

Today's newsletter is 644 words — a 2.5-minute read.

1. NAR seeks Supreme Court input to stop DOJ’s relaunched probe

In a court filing on Thursday, the National Association of Realtors (NAR) said it will appeal the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals ruling that the Department of Justice (DOJ) could reopen its investigation into the trade group.

The decision to appeal to the Supreme Court comes after the Appeals Court denied NAR’s request for a rehearing in July.

NAR intends to file a formal request to the Supreme Court by October 10, 2024. LINK

2. Sitzer has just created a real estate startup, after beating NAR

Josh Sitzer, who successfully sued the National Association of Realtors (NAR) over real estate commission practices, has co-founded a startup named Landian.

The website, which claims it is not a brokerage, allows homebuyers to select services from real estate agents and pay for them a la carte ‘according to the menu’.

The startup allows users to import listings from any real estate site and engage with local agents without incurring commission fees.

4. A North Texas Representative proposes delaying school start dates to help the Texas grid

Republican state Representative Jared Patterson says he will introduce a bill next session that will delay the start of school until September after Labor Day to help reduce stress on the power grid.

We cool down some of the largest buildings in most communities across the state of Texas during the hottest month of the year, which costs more money, puts more of a strain on the grid, and in addition to that, you’ve got kids playing on playground equipment that’s too hot to touch. You’ve got football players and band members practicing in excruciating heat

This comes days after the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) reported record-high demand and thousands of Austin Energy customers experiencing power outages amid excessive heat. LINK
