1. US Treasury to expand security reviews for land deals near military bases

The U.S. Treasury Department wants to give the Committee on Foreign Investment more power to check real estate deals by foreign buyers near military bases.

Under a law passed by Congress in 2018, CFIUS can review real estate deals near certain military bases and take action if needed. LINK

CFIUS plays an integral role in U.S. national security by thoroughly reviewing real estate transactions near sensitive military installations, and this proposed rule will significantly expand its jurisdiction and ability to accomplish this vital mission.

2. Move Inc. sues CoStar, claiming stolen information

Move Inc., the parent company of Realtor.com, is suing CoStar Group over alleged trade secret theft. The lawsuit claims that a former Realtor.com employee, illegally accessed confidential information and shared it with his new employer, Homes.com, a CoStar subsidiary.

Move Inc. says the employee looked at confidential documents, like future story ideas and user data, to help Homes.com in their market push.

CoStar denies the claims and says the lawsuit is just a publicity stunt. This legal fight comes after CoStar spent $1 billion on marketing Homes.com to increase traffic and compete with Zillow.

A recent audit has uncovered major problems at the Houston Housing Authority. These issues include poor bookkeeping and a lack of oversight of its federal voucher program, which helps about 19,000 low-income households with their rent.
