1. Texas is among the states with the greatest number of foreclosure starts
Attom released its October 2024 U.S. Foreclosure Market Report on Tuesday. It showed that 30,784 properties had foreclosure filings last month. That’s up 4% from September’s total of 29,668 but down 11% from the October 2023 figure of 34,472.
Lenders started foreclosure on 20,950 properties in October 2024, up 6% from last month but down 10% from a year ago. Texas was among the states with the greatest number of foreclosure starts, with 2,282 starts.
“Foreclosure activity remains challenging for U.S. homeowners, with starts and completed foreclosures up in October. As we approach 2024, the recent Fed rate cut, and the new administration could impact mortgage rates and market stability. While seasonal factors may slow things down briefly, we’ll be watching closely to see how these recent dynamics affect the market in the coming year.”
2. The University of Texas has already enrolled nearly 1,500 students in its AI master’s program
As universities roll out AI programs for associate, undergraduate, and graduate degrees, none are addressing the supply-demand gap for AI workers as effectively as the University of Texas.
Its AI master’s degree is completely online, open to as many students as the university deems qualified, and costs $10,000—a fraction of the price of in-person master’s degrees in computer science at comparable universities.

5. Cities between San Antonio and Austin are growing at a high speed
The Texas Demographic Center released its estimated total population data on Thursday, November 8, showing that the state's population is estimated to have surpassed 30.7 million, reflecting a growth of about 5% since 2020.
Most population growth is observed in large metropolitan areas such as Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, Austin, and San Antonio. These four areas accounted for about 69% of the Texas population in 2023 and experienced an 84% growth between 2020 and 2023.
However, suburban cities like New Braunfels and Seguin are growing at a high speed and experiencing a higher population change rate than major cities like San Antonio and Austin.
